Cartier is drawing renewed attention to its Soir collection of limited-edition evening bags, bringing gemstone settings and traditional jewellery techniques into accessories designed to occupy a distinctive place within the luxury market.

The collection includes seven designs combining leather, satin and velvet with decorative elements more commonly associated with fine jewellery. The bags feature cushion, spherical, cylindrical and rectangular shapes, with clasps incorporating materials such as amethyst, green agate and golden obsidian. Their varied construction places particular emphasis on the relationship between materials, ornamentation and practical design.

Among the collection's notable pieces is a cylindrical Cabochon bag made from burgundy calfskin, decorated with hessonite garnet cabochons and finished with a delicate chain. Other designs feature emerald-green satin, navy tufted velvet and golden lurex. Certain polygonal clutches incorporate an articulated fastening mechanism associated with Cartier's accessories craftsmanship since the 1920s, alongside crocodile leather detailing. The designs also draw on the legacy of Jeanne Toussaint, who helped establish Cartier's distinctive approach to leather accessories during the early twentieth century.

The collection reflects a wider interest among jewellery houses in producing accessories that combine familiar functionality with exceptional decorative craftsmanship. Rather than competing directly with everyday handbags, such pieces appeal to customers seeking distinctive objects for special occasions and collecting. Cartier's approach also demonstrates how historic design techniques can be adapted to contemporary accessories, extending a jewellery house's creative identity beyond watches and gemstones into leather goods.
