Sotheby's has opened a new gallery in Dubai's International Financial Centre, bringing rare watches, fine jewellery, designer handbags and collectable vehicles together as the auction house expands its presence in the Middle Eastern luxury market.

Officially unveiled on 28 October, the gallery marks ten years since Sotheby's established a permanent presence in the United Arab Emirates. Located in Gate Village, the space combines public exhibitions with opportunities for private sales, offering collectors access to objects across several luxury categories. Its opening exhibition is available to visitors free of charge.

Highlights include rare Patek Philippe watches, an Hermès Himalaya Birkin handbag and a 1939 Cartier necklace featuring Burmese rubies and diamonds. A 1971 Surtees TS9B Formula One car, previously driven by John Surtees and Mike Hailwood, is also displayed for private sale. Contemporary artworks from the collection of Dubai-based collector Elie Khouri feature alongside pieces by international artists. Sotheby's is additionally showcasing a bespoke jewellery service offering personalised designs using exceptional gemstones.

The opening reflects Dubai's increasing importance as a centre for wealthy collectors, where demand extends beyond conventional art into watches, handbags, jewellery and historic automobiles. By presenting these categories together, Sotheby's is positioning its gallery around the broader interests of international buyers rather than individual auctions. The development also strengthens the auction house's ability to maintain relationships with regional collectors throughout the year. Its success will depend on converting that engagement into sustained private sales and auction participation.
