Authorities in Southern California have recovered more than $6mn worth of stolen designer merchandise following a multi-agency investigation into a residential burglary that began earlier this year. The discovery emerged after detectives traced a suspect believed to be connected to a wider series of thefts spanning multiple counties in the region.

The investigation started in January when officers in El Segundo responded to a residential burglary involving the theft of goods valued at more than $600,000. According to police, the stolen items included designer handbags and jewellery. Detectives spent roughly a month tracking the suspect across several counties before coordinating with police departments in San Diego and Glendale to continue the investigation. Their efforts ultimately led authorities to a residence in Temecula, where officers executed a search warrant linked to the case.

During the search, investigators initially recovered merchandise connected to the original burglary valued at approximately $600,000. However, further examination of the property revealed a far larger collection of goods believed to have been stolen through additional crimes. Police reported finding more than 100 designer handbags from labels including Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Chanel. Officers also discovered 22 high-end watches produced by manufacturers such as Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Rolex, along with gold coins, jewellery and other valuables.

Authorities said the operation also uncovered more than $800,000 in cash and 20 firearms stored at the property. Detectives estimate that the total value of items recovered during the search exceeds $6mn. The suspect has been charged with residential burglary, possession of stolen property and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Police indicated that further charges could follow as investigators continue examining related cases in other cities.

Officials believe the suspect may have been part of an organised burglary group operating across Los Angeles and San Diego counties. Detectives have asked individuals who suspect their belongings may be among the recovered items to contact investigators as authorities attempt to identify victims and determine the full scope of the alleged theft network.
